Statement of Need:
Atherosclerosis imaging is recommended in the initial risk assessment of patients with intermediate risk of coronary heart disease, a problem which faces up to 50% of adults in the United States. Greater understanding in the performance and application of these techniques is needed to translate the present guidelines into clinical care.

Overall Objectives:
Learners will possess greater competence on atherosclerosis imaging techniques, leading to improved performance through appropriate application of the technique leading to optimal identification and treatment of cardiovascular risk.

After participating in this activity, the participants should be better able to:

• Apply best practices in the performance, interpretation, and management of carotid intima media thickness testing.
• Develop the knowledge base for the clinical care of patients using atherosclerosis imaging for cardiovascular prevention. 
• Recognize the critical linkage between quality imaging and quality cardiovascular prevention including aspects of appropriate patient selection, performance and treatment selection.

Who Should Attend:

• Cardiovascular medicine specialists
• Primary care physicians whose practice focuses on cardiovascular risk (internal medicine, family practice)
• Cardiac care associates engaged in the practice of cardiovascular prevention
• Ultrasound technologists with experience in cardiovascular imaging
